Sergeant
Frank S. Stratton
Served the community of Norwalk for 28 years
Killed in the Line of Duty
October 14, 1930 |

Shortly after 5:00 am on October 14, 1930,
Sergeant Frank Stratton was on patrol in the area of East Avenue and Westport Avenue when
he noticed a suspicious motor vehicle. Sergeant Stratton decided to stop the eastbound car
and investigate. Once the vehicle was
stopped, it was discovered that the two men inside, both uniformed Marines, were AWOL, and
had stolen the car. The two men were taken into custody and as Sergeant Stratton was
leading the suspects to his patrol car, he was struck by a speeding motor vehicle which
was traveling westbound on Westport Avenue.
Sergeant Stratton was 64 years old at the
time of his death. |

Officer
Sherrald Gorton
Served the community of Norwalk for 12 years
Killed in the Line of Duty
June 20, 1962 |

While working a traffic
assignment at a construction site on Richards Avenue, Officer Gorton was killed when an
eighteen ton dump truck struck him as it was backing.
Officer Gorton was 37
years old at the time of his death. |

Sergeant
Nicholas W. Fera
Served the community of Norwalk for 19 years
Killed in the Line of Duty
July 9, 1971 |

Sergeant Nicholas Fera was
shot and killed while attempting to effect the arrest of two armed robbery suspects. The
two men had robbed the West Norwalk branch of the Connecticut National bank, shortly
before Sergeant Fera observed them travelling on Connecticut Avenue.
When he attempted to take them
into custody, gunfire erupted which left Sergeant Fera and one of the suspects fatally
wounded.
Sergeant Fera was 45 at
the time of his death. |

Officer
Marco Carias
Served the community of Norwalk for 2 years
Killed in the Line of Duty
March 20, 1982 |

Shortly after midnight on
March 20, 1982, Officer Marco Carias was involved in a serious motor vehicle accident
while operating an undercover State Police vehicle. Officer Carias has completed his
undercover investigative duties, as part of his assignment to the Statewide Narcotics Task
Force, and was returning the vehicle to the State Police Garage at troop G which was then
in Westport.
While traveling on Sugar
Hollow Road in Danbury, Officer Carias' vehicle struck a utility pole resulting in
multiple and severe injuries to which he would later succumb.
Officer Carias was 26
years old at the time of his death. |
